Protect Our Jobs!

A message from We are the People Michigan:

Today Michigan workers have a right to collectively bargain for their hard-earned wages and benefits, but Lansing politicians are threatening this basic right as never before. Over 80 bills have been introduced in Lansing that attack collective bargaining and workers' rights, and we must act now to protect Michigan jobs.

Collective bargaining gives all workers a voice, and the ability to come together to negotiate a fair contract. Without these protections, CEOs can arbitrarily fire workers and outsource jobs to countries like China and Mexico.

By signing this petition you are helping build people power to take on the CEOs and their friends in Lansing who want to end collective bargaining rights.

Every Michigan family loses if Michigan workers lose the right to bargain together with employers. Yet Lansing politicians have moved one anti-worker measure after another, doing nothing to help put Michigan back to work.

Right now there are over 80 bills being considered that weaken protections for workers and dismantle collective bargaining rights. One would outright ban collective bargaining for some workers, and all of them dismantle protections for workers. With anti-worker politicians in control of the state Legislature it is only a matter of time before we could see the end of collective bargaining as we know it.

To rebuild Michigan’s economy, we all need to work together to protect Michigan workers and strengthen the middle class to help small businesses create jobs.

Resolutions of Safety Recognition - January 2012

At a Council Meeting held in Lansing on January 13 and 14, 2012, Resolutions of Safety Recognition were presented by Council President Patrick Dillon to several Locals with one or more headquarters where each worker went home safely every day during 2011. VCC Members Recognized for Perfect Attendance!

On November 29, 2011, 51 Call Center Representatives from the five call centers (Saginaw, Royal Oak, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Alma) were recognized at the Lansing Lexington Hotel and awarded for their perfect attendance. These employees accomplished perfect attendance ranging from 1 to 28 years. Council President Patrick Dillon, along with each Call Center Local President and Company representatives, attended the award presentation and applauded the union employees for their dedication.

This is the first time the Call Center Representatives have been recognized and the Michigan State Utility Workers Council would like to congratulate and thank each individual for their outstanding accomplishment.

Oppose House Bill 4326 - State regulations and federal law

HB 4326 would prohibit the State of Michigan from issuing any regulation that contains a standard more stringent than the federal law unless specifically authorized by the legislature. It would roll back important workplace safety and environmental protections that make Michigan a great place to live and work.

Let your representatives know that Michigan requires its own set of rules and regulations to cater to your needs and the needs of other citizens.
